perfect strike relay to home cuts down Yong No trying to
score from second on a Jay Sadowski single to left,
limiting a Red Sox rally in the seventh to just one run.
Pirates trail 7-5 entering top of the eighth.
Newcomer Gary E., a
colleague of Bill’s in the Palmer schools, tied the game
7-7 with a two-run single in the eighth. Gary’s one-out
hit off reliever Sadowski plates Bill DeSanty and Ken
Schubert, who had both singled. His hit is also greeted
by much horn-beeping by his in-laws, who were parked in
right.
Black scores go-ahead
run in ninth after slamming a one-out double, moving up
on a Nightman single and then scoring on an Ayres flair
to left.
Red Sox highlights
Rick Fleurent, Jay
Sadowski, Pres Pieraccini, Bill and Ken each had two
hits.
Fleurent goes six IP ,
yielding three runs (that’s a quality start)
Sadowski enters game in
seventh, slams door on bases-loaded jam with two outs.

Kupinsky throws a complete game!
Craig Kupinsky
the staff ace of the Braves returns to throw a complete
game, while also striking out 11 National hitters and
scattering seven hits and giving up no walks. He was
able to keep the Nats off balance all day with his
incredible change-up and breaking ball. The Nats did jump
out in front with two runs in the top of the first, but the
Braves responded with two of their own, as J.J. Odom lead
off the inning with a triple and scored on Scott Bacon's
groundout. Craig also tripled in the inning and then scored
on a wild pitch. Nationals responded with another run in the
top of the second but could only hold the lead for one
inning.
Odom drew a
walk to start the third inning, then stole second and scored
on Bacon's single, who later scored on a fielders choice
from Braves rookie, Mike Masse. The Braves erupted again for
four more runs in the bottom of the fifth and that would be
all they needed. As Kupinsky threw 5 straight scoreless
innings, and only allowed 1 run in the 8th and 9th innings.
Nationals veteran Mike O'Donnell pitched very well himself,
but just could not get the run support due to Craig's
performance. It was a great game to watch and play in.
